Synopsis: In an alternative feudal Japan, a mysterious disease affecting only males resulted in a significant decrease in population. As a result, females took over the vacant jobs and the social structure shifted. Now, 80 years later, with a 1:4 male to female ratio, Japan is a fully matriarchal society. Women hold all key political positions and men serve as their consorts. The head of the powerful Tokugawa shogunate is the only one allowed to keep a group of handsome but unproductive males, known as the “Ooku.” This drama, adapted from the manga series “Ooku” by Yoshinaga Fumi, follows the story of a society where gender roles are reversed and the struggles and challenges faced by both men and women in this new world. With 10 episodes each lasting 45 minutes, it aired on Tuesdays.
