  3. The ending ruined this drama.

    *Spoiler alert*

    I had really high expectations for this one. Just by the look of the posters and the synopsis, it was giving Penthouse which I really loved. The drama was high-speed and had lots of action and I really appreciated that we saw Hong Tae-Ra in action. Sometimes they give the female lead a reputation of being a badass but they always have someone fighting for them or protecting them so we never get to see them in action but it was nice to see that Hong Tae-Ra is a character with guts who can deliver on her threats. I feel like Uhm Ki-Joon also would have been perfect for this role and it would have been like a mini-reunion since Bong Tae-Gyu also is in this drama. The storyline in this is pretty straightforward, though I was confused as I always had thought it was Pyo Jae-Hyun who was the mastermind. I mean, he knew everything and also orchestrated a lot of it, and to me, it would have made more sense for him to have been the mastermind. I was gonna give this drama 8/10 but I am SO disappointed with the ending. In the beginning, it was about uncovering what had happened the day of Ko Hae-Soo’s father’s murder and also for Hong Tae-Ra to regain her memories, and then suddenly it was all about Hatch and exposing Pyo Jae-Hyun but I guess those parts are all intertwined. After she found out the truth about her husband Hong Tae-Ra made it her mission to stop her husband by pretending to have lost her memories again while also pretending to be on his side but that also meant she was unable to prevent all of the things that happened as she didn’t tell on him until after his presumed death. In my opinion, Pyo Jae-Hyun’s downfall happened because he crossed Min Young-Hwee and attempted to kill Jang Kyo-Jin in the lap explosion. I don’t necessarily mind that it’s an unhappy ending, but it was done so poorly in my opinion. Everything happened in the last thirty minutes and it seemed rushed. Min Young-Hwee was killed so unsatisfyingly in a matter of seconds, it wasn’t dramatic and it was anti-climax. There was also no reason for Cha Pil-Seung to die especially since Ko Hae-Soo seemed like she didn’t care now that it wasn’t Hong Tae-Ra who killed her father. Ko Sun-Chan also went completely unchecked throughout the entire drama, I mean sure, he got stabbed, but survived and after that, he never faced any consequences despite trying to kill Jang Kyo-Jin twice, blowing up the secret lab, and being Pyo Jae-Hyun’s co-conspirator. I knew we wouldn’t get a happy ending with Hong Tae-Ra and Pyo Jae-Hyun but I was really rooting for Ko Hae-Soo and Jang Do-Jin to make up and I really think they could have worked things out in couple’s therapy as they still carry a lot of love for each other, especially since it seemed like she had forgiven him and he had changed for the better. Jang Do-Jin probably could have prevented a lot of things more so than Hong Tae-Ra but due to his lack of courage and cowardice he allowed things to get out of hand and it cost him his marriage and his family.

    We were left with a cliffhanger in the very last second as it seemed like Pyo Jae-Hyun had faked his death or had killed Jang Kyo-Jin and taken his identity to stay close to Hong Tae-Ra but it wasn’t confirmed, and then the drama just ended abruptly. It was very unsatisfying, very rushed. There was no closure for any of the characters.

    Up until the ending this drama was an 8/10.

    However, sadly, because of the very disappointing ending and the way it was executed, I have to rate this drama 6/10.
