Synopsis: The drama is set during the Ming Dynasty. The Yongle Emperor decides to recruit women who are talented in cooking to work in the palace. After a difficult selection process, Yao Zi Jin manages to enter the palace kitchen as a servant. She meets Liu Xing Qiao, a former beggar and genius chef Su Yue Hua. They work together and support each other, offering unique dishes that use Chinese medicine, as well as recreating old famous dishes. Finally, Yao Zi Jin understands the real meaning of the word “food” and decides to give up the fight, choosing to leave the palace and spread the beauty of Chinese cuisine to the common people.

  1. It was difficult to understand and follow the story because of the incorrect subtitles. I read about the animosity that ensued between netizens from K and C regarding the costumes that were worn in this drama. I’m not gonna go into all of that but want to say that I suspect that the subtitle problem was intentional sabotage. The reason I say this is because I have noticed that most Cdramas on Dramacool or Asiantv have problematic subtitles, which is why I never watch Cdramas on either site anymore. It is disappointing that these people would do things like that…

  2. I cannot believe the let down this drama has caused ME !!!!

    What the hang nail !!!!

    All that time we the FANs waited for the release of this drama…to be given something so mundane as to be a down right… ROTTEN TOMATO, in my opinion …. GOSH !!!

    Who edited this thang???

    I sincerely hope there is a Director’s CUT some where that will be made available for us to see…so our collective mental capacity to think can be wiped clean, so the nasty taste left with us upon viewing all 40 episodes of this ‘drama’ would hopefully become dispelled out of our cinematic imagination…

    They needed to show ‘the’ best drama star crossed COUPLE of the CENTURY (Yanxi Palace), finally being together and portrayed as they were meant to be “TOTALLY, and PASSIONATELY IN LOVE…

    They FAILED, miserable with the release of this… ‘thang’

    This drama WAS LAME, LAME, LAME…but they looked good while, making a mess!!!!

    1. I couldn’t have explained it any better. With the subtitles as they were, I was completely clueless about what is truly being said. I waited a full two almost three weeks to finish the last six episodes, because it would have my head spinning. I had to use context clues and facial expressions to decipher the scene. The chemistry they had in Yanxi led me to believe this was going to be off the charts. 85% of the show they were mad at each other and playing games. Let me take my tail back over to Be My Princess and re-watch Business Proposal were the chemistry sizzles my eyebrows.
