Sixteen years ago, five great clans: Lan, Jiang, Nie, Wen and Jin together ruled the world of the Middle Kingdom, equally dividing the spheres of influence. The head of the Wen clan, decided to rise above all and gradually became dominated, which brought many troubles to the other four clans. The carefree Wei Wuxian from the Jiang clan became friends with the righteous Lan Wangji from the Lan clan. They found out that the head of the Wen clan is the evil mastermind behind a series of plots that would wreak havoc upon the lands. They managed to bring the smaller clans together and defeated the Wen clan, saving the whole world from danger. However, Wei Wuxian’s attempts to protect the innocent members of the Wen clan from led to disaster, and he disappeared.

Sixteen years later, Wei Wuxian, who disappeared long ago, appears in the village of Mo, where he meets his old friend, Lan Wanji.

  4. How did Lan Zhan know it was Wei Ying after 16 years?? He never answered Wei Ying saying he got short term memory but I can’t remember from the earlier scenes.
    Will definitely re-watch though.

    1. Its the music. when lan zhan sang for wei ying when they killed the xuanwu, it was also the music being played by wei ying when he was trying to get wen ning out of the chaos. Only both of them know that music so Lan Zhan discovers Wei Ying easily.

    4. From the music he played by the flute. That music was originally composed by Lan Wangji and played in the cave of tortoise and no one else knew the tune other than Wei Wuxian

  6. To be honest this drama is the the best of 2019. It brings feelings all the time that makes me wanna cry when the sad and happy parts comes???. When the episode was done,it makes me wanna watch it again but I don’t want to because the sad and happy memories will come back which will make me cry again. So pls have fun watching this and I swear that you won’t regret watching it but only for some people that will.

  8. watching this drama after being recommended by dramalist is something I will never regret. I love this drama and although I finished this drama already I continue to rewatch it over and over again. This is why I recommend this drama to a lot of people.

    P.S for those who are worried about BL (Boy’s Love), its true this drama originated from a BL novel, but trust me the most BL you can see in this drama is “Bromance” or close friendship. It’s still worth watching especially because of how amazing all the actors portrayed each character.

    If possible I hope to see more of the two main actors working together, it doesn’t have to be BL but they really do work well together.

  10. I wish wen Qing will be ALIVE. Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian relationship not so appropriate. They are like GAY. I wish Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing gets together for LOVE. It’s a humble request to the producer to fulfill the request.

    1. Umm. In case you didn’t know, this series was adapted from the 耽美 (boy’s love) novel 魔道祖师 (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation). The novel perhaps hints at Wen Qing’s feelings towards Wei WuXian but not nearly as much as this drama adaptation. Besides, that kind of relationship never happens. Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi are the focus of the story and are the official canon. They even get married at the end of the novel. It’s meant to be this way.
