  2. She’s so frustrating! she was the one who take that desition and look at her now. As a court maid or as a concubine her life will always be dedicated to the king, no matter what. A court lady can’t marry or have a life on her own inside the palace. As her maid, she can’t have any time for her, always in hold to his every little demand, always lowering her head to not only him but to his other servants since her social status is near the bottom in the palace.
    I understand why she didn’t want to be a concubine, the first impression of them was that lady who die in the first chapter but still… Girl have some common sense. She can’t choose the condition she was born with or the system but at least as a concubine she will have more freedom and live in luxury.

  5. She sure loves him too, but she refused him. I also agree though that she wasn’t fully honest about how she felt about becoming his concubine. It’s like she knows she doesn’t want to be his concubine but she’s also hesitant of telling him the truth. Either way I don’t think San would’ve stopped chasing after her. I love how he respects her and never forces her, but still it’s unfair to ask any woman to be a concubine, especially Deok Im. I just wish she never gave in, but according to the spoilers it seems she’ll finally give in. But it’s really sad to know you’re with someone who can’t be fully yours, it’s pointless

    1. And that’s probably what I love about this drama the most. It shows the raw reality of living in a palace and being a king. Often these things are romantized and idealized – and that’s not only in k dramas – but this kind of life was really fucking hard. A king having just one wife was extremely rare and usually they married just for political reasons, with no love involved. At this point I am just hoping these two suffer as a little as possible and get atleast a semi-happy ending, though I think I will just end up being a clown.

      BTW, you have Tumblr or something? I would love to discuss this drama with someone! But if you don’t want to, that’s fine also 🙂

  6. I do like the idea of them being together and all, but I would never like to see Dok Im as a royal concubine, she should be a Queen not a mistress. I like them together but I wish she never agrees to be a concubine, she even said it’s better not to have something at all than not having it all to yourself

    2. My understanding of Korean history is fairly limited, but I think she can’t become a queen. She is a court maid, first of all, and I am not sure if she is nobility, but she is definitely the daughter of a traitor. It would be against the rules and the ministers would never stand for it. So, her becoming a concubine is the best he can offer her. I am sure if he could make her a queen, he would.

          1. I think this is what makes this drama so tragic. Just them falling in love is absolutely bound to make trouble. I don’t really understand the reasons why is Deok Im refusing to become his concubine, but I know one thing. She should have known it would have lead to this. San is the kind of person, who will want to take responsibility and do everything properly, according to the rules. Having an affair definitely wasn’t his style and it was fairly obvious early on, that marrying her is what he plans to do. As soon as she suspected the then crown prince has feelings for her, she should have put a stop to it at once and hope he is a good person, understands and leaves her alone. That way she could have avoided such trouble. But she continued on and reciprocated his feelings.
            I am not condoning all of Sans actions, but I at least can understand why he is acting the way he is. And considering the historical background, how some people acted back then, at least he is trying to make her marry him willingly.

        2. You are very stupid….do u know how much San went far for her……..a king to a mere maid…..u might say she protected him buh its part of your duty as a palace servant….get some points into your head
